Acting Now is delighted to collaborate with University of Cambridge to develop a theatre project exploring the experience of learning a new language and adjusting to life in a foreign country.

THE PROJECT
Led by Acting Now Artistic Director Marina Pallarès-Elias, the project will involve the creation of a collaborative play featuring all different native languages from the participants, along with their personal experiences of learning a new language and building a new identity. Through a series of theatre workshops, Marina will work with the group to devise a physical theatre play based on the participants’ stories. The resulting play will be shown at the Cambridge Festival of Ideas in October 2018.

PHYSICAL THEATRE WILL BE OUR COMMON LANGUAGE
Physical theatre is a genre of performance which makes use of the body (as opposed to the spoken word) as the primary means of performance and communication with an audience. Physical theatre can be distinguished from dance in that it tends to focus more on narrative, character and action.
Acting Now uses the pedagogy of Jacques Lecoq, one of the finest teachers of acting in our time.

The magic of physical theatre is that we create whole new worlds in which we can express our emotions and stories by 'simply' using the physicality of our bodies in movement and voice. Physical theatre reconnects us with our bodies and emotions in an exciting and challenging way, which is open to anybody with a body and a curious mind.

PARTICIPANTS
We are looking for people living in Cambridgeshire whose first language is not English.
No theatre experience is required.
